“Thank you for your email and your interest in studying the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) at the University of Queensland.
You will have to apply through QTAC (www.qtac.edu.au) for a place at UQ and meet the Entry Requirements for the Bachelor of Engineering. The 2011 Entry Requirements are on our Courses and Programs website - http://www.uq.edu.au/study/program.html?acad_prog=2001, but these can change from year to year. As you can see, you will need at least Maths B (preferably Maths C) and either Physics or Chemistry (preferably both) and an OP/Rank of 6/90 or better to satisfy the present entry requirements. If you won't have the required courses you can enrol in Bridging courses to be eligible for Engineering. Some Bridging programs are designed to meet the requirements of a specific institution and therefore are not accepted at another institution. The following link will provide you with a list of bridging programs accepted by the University of Queensland: www.uq.edu.au/study/docs/domestic/bridging.pdf.
Or
When you apply to QTAC, you could list your second preference as the Bachelor of Information Technology (http://www.uq.edu.au/study/program.html?acad_prog=2230) where the Entry Requirements and OP/Rank are not so high. Have a look at the Course List - it says that you may enrol in no more than #16 from courses not in the BInfTech list.
If you do not get a Sound Achievement in Maths B you could look at enrolling in the Bachelor of Multimedia Design (http://www.uq.edu.au/study/program.html?acad_prog=2221) as your third preference. Their Program Rules and Requirements state “#16 from Part B, or from Parts A or B of the BInfTech list or from other courses approved by the Executive Dean”.
This means you could enrol in some of the 1st Year Engineering courses as well as MATH1040 (equal to Maths B), or MATH1050 (equal to Maths C), PHYS1171 (equal to Year 12 Physics) and/or CHEM1090 (equal to Year 12 Chemistry), but you would not get credit for all of them as Physics or Chemistry and Maths B are prerequisites for entry in to the BE. Once you have the pre-requisite courses, you can apply to change to the Bachelor of Engineering degree.
